Recommendations for employers...
Background checks and pre-screening
Candidates listed on No More Chaos are not pre-screened.
No More Chaos strongly recommends that you thoroughly check the references and background of every candidate you consider before hiring anyone.
The decision and responsibility of hiring any candidate rests with you. Be sure you have the facts regarding previous employment, criminal records, immigration and visa status so that you can make the most informed decision.
If you require an employee who drives, it would be wise to check their driving record; whether their license is valid in your country; and whether they have experience driving in a foreign country.
Live-in position
It is important that you provide an employee with their own bedroom. in 'More About Us' give details of the type of accommodation you are providing; own bedroom; annex to main house etc. and everything that you are providing for the employee: i.e. wardrobe; chest drawers; television; radio; internet access. Will they have their own shower / bathroom, or will they be expected to share? Give them as much information as possible prior to arrival so there is no confusion.
Warning!
Do not send any money to anyone! If you agree to pay travel expenses, reimburse on arrival. Unfortunately, there are many scams. Do not get sucked in! If someone does not have the money to pay for a ticket themselves, buy it for them, rather than giving / loaning them the money to do so.
Job descriptions, contracts and employment status
You should provide a detailed job description including remuneration package, working hours etc.
You will need to consider what status you are employing your new staff and issue a contract accordingly. Dependent on which status, you may need to pay their tax and national insurance contributions. Please check with your local tax office.
It is worth asking your new employee to sign a contract prior to arrival. So before they have committed to the job they are fully aware what it involves - make it as detailed as possible, so there are no surprises for your new employee.
